NASA DART mission
NASA's Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) mission launched on November 23, 2021, in one of SpaceX's Falcon 9 rockets. The missions' goal is to test the possibility of using an object's kinetic energy to deflect an asteroid enough to change its course. The spacecraft impacted the asteroid in September 26, 2022, and NASA subsequently confirmed that it successfully changed its course. This is NASA's first planetary defense test mission and first time we change the course of a celestial object purposefully.

San Francisco Pride Week + Women's Right
In celebration of Pride, San Francisco projected a 4.1 mile long rainbow made of laser lights starting from the Ferry Building. During that week, on June 24th, 2022, the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, removing access to abortion at the federal level. In solidarity, a uterus was also projected onto the Ferry Building along the laser lights.

Workers taking a break while crossing the Panama Canal
Over 14 000 ships cross the Panama Canal every year. Interestingly, whether it is a small sailboat or an American warship, an ACP (Autoridad del Canal de Panamá or Panama Canal Authority) operator must board the ship and direct the boat for it to be allowed to cross the Canal. The operator's job is to communicate with tugboats and ground staff to ensure a safe passage of the vessel. In 2016, the Third Set of Locks of the Panama Canal was inaugurated, allowing larger Post-Panamax vessels to cross the Canal.
